Be Faithful, as He is Faithful

“Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful” (Hebrews 10:23).

There is a half-acre pond on our Sanctuary at Camilla property which I had dug several years ago. Depending only on rain water to fill it, it took six months to fill it; I stocked it with hundreds of small fingerlings of Red Ear Perch and Florida Large Mouth Bass fish. Over a few years, I routinely fed these little fish every afternoon as the sun’s shadows crept across the pond’s surface. My fish came to know this was their feeding time. They came to depend on me being there faithfully each day to throw out their 7-8 hands full of dry dog food pellets. I made a commitment to do this for them. And so, every afternoon, as I approached the water’s edge, my little fish were there swimming back and forth anticipating the scrumptious meal they eagerly waited for. The food would barely hit the water’s surface and there was tumultuous splashing and thrashing of hundreds of hungry fish eager to eat. My little fish became dependent on me being faithful to be there every day for them.

Like these little fish who continued to hold on to hope for me being there for them, and my promise to myself to provide for them, I believe we as God’s children continue to hold unswervingly to our hope and our faith in Him. We know we can trust Him to be faithful because He has promised to be here each day for us!

In verse 25 of (Hebrews 10) it says; “Let us not give up meeting together…but let us encourage one another – and all the more as you see the Day approaching.” I watched my little fish grow into big fish, even caught a few really nice ones, and this Scripture would come alive for me. Unfortunately, the long-lasting, terrible drought we have had here in east Texas this past spring and summer has dried up my pond. My little fish are all gone. Faithfully though, I am holding on the truth that my God will provide. He knows my every need and He will soon bring His cool rain. He will fill my pond, and once again I will have hundreds of little fish swimming back and forth looking for me to feed them and I will.

“Let us be faithful, just as He is faithful.”
