Tonic For The Soul

“Shout for joy to the LORD, all the earth, burst into jubilant song with music; make music to the LORD” (Psalm 98:4, 5).

Here is one dictionary’s definition of the jubilant: uttering songs of triumph; shouting with joy; triumphant; exulting.

Loving the LORD as we do, don’t we just want to sing out our praises to Him? Joyful music lifts our spirits. It did for King Saul for the Bible says in (1 Samuel 16:23) “Whenever the spirit from God came upon Saul, David would take his harp and play. Then relief would come to Saul; he would feel better, and the evil spirit would leave him.” The king’s attendants advised Saul to send for a musician to play joyful music. They told him of a shepherd boy named David who was a talented boy musician, and he did and whenever David played his harp Saul would feel better!

Music is tonic for the soul. Joyful music played and sung to the LORD please the LORD. I live with a personal testimony of one woman who loves to sing praises to the LORD. Sally, my wife and my partner in ministry, sings and plays keyboard every chance she gets. There is nothing that will fire her spirit like jubilant singing to the LORD! I believe she gets a foot taller, and her smile radiates a contagious joyfulness that makes it hard to not get caught up in all her jubilance! People tell me this all the time.

Jubilant music played and sung to the LORD has got to be one of the most powerful, and effective ways of getting GOD’s attention. Do you have a problem you are dealing with right now? Like King Saul, would you like to feel better about it? Sing a jubilant song to the LORD; He will fix that problem for you.
